About WideDoor

WideDoor is software that tests online shops for accessibility problems and gives guidance on fixing them. It's built for small shops on Shopify and WooCommerce that can't spend thousands on an agency audit.

Why it exists

Shoppers who use screen readers, keyboards or zoom give up when they can't pick a size or find the cart button. Plaintiffs filed 3,117 website accessibility lawsuits in US federal courts in 2025, 27% more than in 2024 (Seyfarth Shaw, March 2026).

Many small shops respond by installing an overlay widget. A widget doesn't change the shop's own code, and in 2025 the US Federal Trade Commission ordered one overlay vendor, accessiBe, to pay $1 million and stop claiming its product could make any website conform to WCAG without evidence (FTC, April 2025). WideDoor takes the other route: find the problems in your pages and show you how to fix them.

How the tests work

  1. The software opens your pages one after another in a new headless Chromium browser session, with reduced motion preferred. It scrolls down each page (up to about 12 screen heights) and back so lazy-loaded content appears.
  2. The open-source axe-core rule engine runs its WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 level A and AA rules on the rendered page.
  3. In every paid report, a keyboard test presses Tab up to 120 times and records the focus order, whether each focused element is visible and has a focus indicator, whether it's covered by other content, and whether focus gets stuck.
  4. The home page is checked for a link to an accessibility statement, a way to contact the shop, and known overlay widget scripts.
  5. Every report records when it was generated, the rule engine version, and which of the 55 WCAG 2.2 A/AA success criteria the automated tests touch: fewer than half, most of them only partly. The method statement adds the browser version and when each page was tested.

Sections marked "AI-generated" (the summary, fix plan, alt-text check, cart and pre-checkout summary, and draft statement in the Evidence Packs) are written by an AI model from the automated results. Review them before acting.
